Chiang Wan-an announces postpartum allowance in Taipei

Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an has announced a new policy to provide a postpartum allowance of 30,000 TWD per child.

In response, Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) mayoral candidate Shen Po-yang stated that while the subsidy is a positive step, childcare must encompass both birth and upbringing. Shen emphasized the importance of school commuting safety, nutritional lunch quality, addressing bullying, and improving parental feedback channels.

Shen also proposed a broader support system, including a 500,000 TWD grant for youth aged 18 to 22 and various social welfare policies spanning from infancy to elderly care.
