Suchiapa officials arrested in Chiapas corruption operation

In a coordinated effort known as Operación Enjambre, Mexican federal and state authorities arrested 21 people in Suchiapa, Chiapas, on the morning of October 3, 2026. The operation included the Mexican Army, National Guard, the Attorney General's Office (FGR), and the Secretariat of Security and Protection of the Citizen (SSPC), working alongside Chiapas state security forces.

Among those detained are the current municipal president, Jorge Lorenzo Lara Cordero, and former mayor Alexis Nucamendi Gómez. The arrests also involved various commanders and members of the Suchiapa Municipal Police, as well as judicial personnel. The detainees face allegations of abuse of authority, corruption, and criminal association.

The investigation was reportedly triggered by the escape of Humberto N, alias 'La Gretel,' a member of the Chiapas and Guatemala Cartel, from the municipal jail following a drug enforcement operation on September 25. This escape led to the prior detention of Municipal Police Director Jesús Antonio “N,” who is suspected of facilitating the fugitive's escape.
