Chiapas Governor proposes gender parity reform for municipal power

Chiapas Governor Eduardo Ramírez Aguilar has signed a reform initiative to be submitted to the State Congress aimed at guaranteeing gender parity in municipal governance. The proposal seeks to establish rules of alternation to ensure the continuous and equitable participation of both women and men in municipal presidencies.

Ramírez noted that Chiapas currently has one of the lowest rates of women in municipal leadership and expressed hope that this reform would transform the state into one with the highest female representation in local government. The initiative is designed to prevent legal strategies or simulations that might hinder the effective implementation of parity rights.

The Governor aligned the move with the national administration of President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, stating that the reform advances the premise of female political empowerment in Mexico.
