Chiapas health groups demand investigation into HIV coordination management

Health organizations in Chiapas are calling for an investigation into the management of the State HIV Coordination. The HIV and Sexually Transmitted Infections Working Group expressed concern regarding the potential reappointment of Alejandro Rivera Marroquín to lead the agency.

Rosemberg López Samayoa, spokesperson for Una Mano Amiga en la Lucha contra el Sida, stated that while collaboration between civil society and authorities previously helped reduce national case rankings, a subsequent resurgence in cases may be linked to institutional lack of coordination and weakened organizational participation.

López Samayoa urged Governor Eduardo Ramírez and Health Secretary Omar Gómez Cruz to ensure the coordination is led by experienced personnel. He also requested an investigation into allegations of nepotism and the appointment of inexperienced staff within the program.
