Chiapas leads Mexico in record maize procurement

Chiapas has achieved a national record in maize procurement for the spring-summer 2025 agricultural cycle. Through the Alimentación para el Bienestar program, the state accounted for 29.5% of the total national collection from small-scale producers owning between one and five hectares.

Nationwide, 752,000 tons of maize were collected, with producers receiving a price of 7,200 pesos per ton. Chiapas contributed nearly 222,000 tons, benefiting 16,148 producers and generating an economic impact of 1,598,300,000 pesos. This level of procurement marks a milestone not seen in the previous seven agricultural cycles.

The collected grain is intended to supply Bienestar stores across several states, including Chiapas, Quintana Roo, Yucatán, Campeche, Tabasco, Veracruz, and Oaxaca.
