Ostuacán, Chiapas: Mob lynches suspect after double feminicide
In the municipality of Ostuacán, Chiapas, residents forcibly entered the municipal headquarters to seize two detainees accused of the double feminicide of 55-year-old Miriam Cruz Alpuche and her 12-year-old granddaughter, Ariana Scarlett. During the incident, one suspect, identified as Andrés ‘N’ (alias ‘El Cera’), was killed by the crowd, while the other, Armando ‘N’ (alias ‘El Melo’), survived the assault and was rescued by security forces.
The victims had been reported missing on October 19 after leaving to tend to livestock. Forensic reports confirmed that the grandmother died from puncture wounds to the neck, while the child died of mechanical asphyxiation following sexual assault. State Prosecutor Jorge Luis Llaven Abarca stated that investigations suggest the motive was personal revenge.
Following the violence, state and federal authorities deployed operations to restore order in the municipality. The Chiapas Prosecutor's Office has opened a parallel investigation into the homicide of the lynched suspect and confirmed it will seek the maximum penalty of up to 100 years in prison for the surviving perpetrator.
