Chiapas tourism rises despite decline in air travel

Chiapas experienced a 2.01% increase in total visitors during the first half of 2026, reaching a total of 4,280,104 people according to the Observatorio Ciudadano del Fomento Económico (FEC).

Despite the rise in overall tourism, air travel in the state saw a 3.23% year-over-year decline, with airports handling 1,058,717 passengers. A notable exception was the Palenque Airport, which saw a 78.54% increase in passengers, rising from 4,866 in the first half of 2025 to 8,688 in the same period of 2026.
