Chiapas women march to defend effective parity electoral reform

Thousands of women marched in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas, to defend the Effective Parity Electoral Reform. The initiative aims to guarantee that women lead municipal governments across the state.

Promoted by Governor Eduardo Ramírez Aguilar and approved by the State Congress on September 14, the reform seeks to strengthen rules for municipal nominations ahead of the 2027 electoral process. The mobilization follows a legal challenge to the reform, which is currently awaiting a resolution from the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN).

Participants, including feminist collectives, activists, legislators, and municipal presidents, held a rally to demand that legal parity translates into real leadership opportunities and substantive representation in public decision-making.
