Chiara Mosetti defeats Shannon Sweeney at European Boxing Championships

Italian boxer Chiara Mosetti advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2026 European Boxing Championships in Sofia after defeating defending 50 kg champion Shannon Sweeney. Competing in the 48 kg category, Mosetti secured a 4-1 split decision victory.

Sweeney controlled the initial stages of the match with higher precision, leading on four of the five judges' scorecards during the first round. However, the momentum shifted in the second round when Mosetti landed a left uppercut that resulted in a standing eight count for the Irish fighter. Mosetti utilized right hooks and improved ring presence to close the gap.

The match remained highly competitive heading into the final round, with scores largely tied.
