Chiayi City advances smart governance and disaster resilience

Chiayi City has received recognition for its advancements in smart governance and urban sustainability. The city’s ‘Jiasen Image Tree Management Platform’ and the ‘Chiayi City: Smile Carbon Sink Loop’ both received excellence awards from the Chinese Institute of Spatial Information for their digital governance applications.

The ‘Jiasen Image’ platform utilizes GIS and 3D digital twin technology to manage 28,880 trees, quantifying a total carbon sink of approximately 1,479.8 metric tons. Additionally, the ‘Smile Carbon Sink Loop’ project, developed in collaboration with National Cheng Kung University, uses Geo-AI and remote sensing to establish carbon sink baselines across 158.5 hectares of urban green space.

In a separate effort to bolster urban resilience, the World Chinese Women Entrepreneurs Association donated a disaster relief and medical equipment vehicle to the Chiayi City Fire Bureau. Mayor Huang Min-hui stated that the vehicle will enhance the mobility and efficiency of the special rescue team, allowing for faster deployment of essential equipment during major disasters and cross-regional support missions.
