Chiayi City offers integrated household registration and tax rate applications

The Chiayi City Government Finance and Taxation Bureau has announced that citizens can now apply for preferential land value tax rates for self-use residential land simultaneously when processing household registration transfers at household registration offices.

The preferential tax rate for self-use residential land is 2‰, which is more than four times lower than the general land tax rate of 10‰ to 55‰. To benefit from this service, the household registration office will automatically notify the taxation bureau, eliminating the need for citizens to visit the taxation bureau in person.

This cross-agency notification service is currently only applicable when the land owner themselves is transferring their household registration. If a spouse or immediate relative is transferring their registration, the land owner must still apply via the internet or in person at the taxation bureau. Eligible taxpayers must submit their application before September 22 each year to avoid having to wait until the following year for the rate to take effect.
