Chiayi City rolls out cash‑rebate scheme as new housing project sees rapid sales

Chiayi City launched a "spend NT$1,000, get NT$100" cash‑rebate program on August 3. Residents who present invoices totalling at least NT$1,000 can claim NT$100 in cash, with a total allocation of NT$2.5 billion and daily limits of 800 claimants. The city expects the funds to be exhausted within a month, aiming to sustain strong consumer spending after the shopping festival that already surpassed NT$1 billion in invoice registrations.

At the same time, the private developer Jiazhang Construction reported brisk demand for its new "Jiazhang Da Jia II" residential project in the Lake‑area redevelopment zone. Priced at roughly one‑third of city‑center homes and offering a low down‑payment option starting at NT$380,000, the development sold more than 30 % of its units within a month of launch. The project targets workers moving to the region for jobs at the Chiayi Science Park and the nearby Ma‑Chou industrial zone, which have been spurred by TSMC’s announced presence.

Both initiatives reflect Chiayi’s broader effort to boost local consumption and accommodate a growing population of technology‑sector employees.
