Chiayi City urges environmental maintenance to prevent dengue fever

The Chiayi City Government Environmental Protection Bureau has issued a reminder to landowners and managers to maintain cleanliness in vacant lots and houses to prevent public health risks. Due to hot and rainy summer weather, rapid vegetation growth can lead to overgrown weeds, which may harbor mosquitoes, increase the risk of dengue fever, obstruct drainage, and provide shelter for pests.

Under the Waste Disposal Act, owners or managers of vacant land or buildings are required to trim weeds exceeding 100 centimeters in height and prevent the accumulation of waste or stagnant water. Failure to comply with these environmental management responsibilities can result in fines ranging from NT$1,200 to NT$100,000.
