Chiayi County launches marketing campaign for Dongshi oyster industry
The Chiayi County Government has launched the ‘Dongshi Oyster: Open for Business’ marketing campaign to promote the region's oyster industry. Running from September 21 to November 1, the initiative features the debut of ‘He Bao,’ an original oyster-themed IP character. Participants who spend at least 500 TWD at designated partner establishments and complete check-in tasks can redeem limited-edition ‘He Bao’ blind boxes and other rewards.
Chiayi County is Taiwan's largest oyster producer, accounting for approximately 45% of the national output with an annual production exceeding 6,000 metric tons. To enhance market recognition and quality control, the county has been implementing an industry enhancement plan since 2022. This program focuses on traceability, industry training, and facility improvements. As of 2026, the government has assisted 634 households in registering traceability barcodes and facilitated 29 production and sales certificates. Traceable Chiayi oysters are now available through various major retail chains.
County Magistrate Weng Chang-liang noted that as the northeast monsoon arrives, oysters begin to slim down, making it an ideal time for consumption. The government aims to use the traceability mechanism to verify the authenticity of Dongshi oysters and encourage self-management among local operators to build a stronger brand.
