Chiayi economic activity rises with shopping festival and new social housing milestone

Chiayi City is reporting significant economic activity through its 2026 Shopping Festival. Since its launch on July 1, registered invoice amounts have approached 800 million TWD. A government subsidy program titled ‘Spend 1,000, Get 100’ has fully utilized its 25 million TWD budget, driving over 278 million TWD in consumer spending and generating an 11-fold economic benefit.

In Chiayi County, construction has reached a major milestone for ‘Fule Anju,’ the region’s first social housing project. Located in Minxiong Township, the development held its topping-out ceremony on September 16. The project, a collaboration between central and local governments, is expected to be completed in 2028 and will provide 630 housing units. The complex will include community facilities such as a childcare center and services for people with disabilities, with rents aimed at being less than half of the market rate for new residential buildings.

Additionally, the city will host the ‘Kaijia Market’ at Chiayi Park on September 19 and 20, featuring local vendors, food, and cultural products to continue the shopping festival's momentum.
