Chiayi Family Care Center seeks over NT$1 million for scholarships for 619 students

The Chiayi Family Care Center (嘉義家扶中心) announced a fundraising campaign to collect NT$2.94 million in scholarship funds for 619 primary, secondary, vocational and university students. As of early August, more than NT$1 million remains unfunded.

To close the gap, the centre will hold a charity sale on 7‑8 August at the Showtime Life store and the Far Eastern Department Store in Chiayi, selling low‑price items with proceeds earmarked for the scholarship fund. Director Shen Mingyan highlighted rising living costs and the burden on low‑income families. One beneficiary, a university junior known as Xiao Chun, who was raised by his grandmother, said the aid allows him to pay tuition and pursue a career in social work.
