Chiayi mayoral candidates Wang Mei-hui and Chang Chi-kai complete registration

The Chiayi mayoral election has intensified as both major candidates completed their registration. Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) candidate Wang Mei-hui officially registered on the 2nd, accompanied by local supporters and city councilors. Wang emphasized her long-term commitment to service and her experience as a legislator, focusing on issues such as social housing, elderly-friendly services, and industrial cooperation involving TSMC.

In contrast, Chang Chi-kai, the former legislator backed by a coalition of the Kuomintang (KMT) and the Taiwan People's Party (TPP), also completed his registration. Chang was supported by current Chiayi Mayor Huang Min-hui and TPP Chairperson Huang Kuo-chang. Chang has formally challenged Wang to a public policy debate and outlined 15 key policies, including the development of the Beigang Road industry and the construction of a Chiayi light rail system.

Regarding the debate request, Wang stated that while she respects the election commission's arrangements, she believes voters prioritize long-term service over temporary debates.
