Torrential rains and record-breaking flooding in Japan's Chiba Prefecture have resulted in at least 10 deaths. The heavy precipitation, which included 348 liters of rain per square meter in a 12-hour period, caused significant destruction across the region.

Authorities report that approximately 1,300 homes were flooded and roughly 250 buildings in Chiba City sustained damage. The disaster has also left a massive logistical challenge, with Chiba City confirming about 2,500 abandoned or immobilized vehicles on roads, roughly 200 of which are obstructing traffic.

Infrastructure and transport have been severely impacted. Approximately 6,000 passengers were stranded at Narita Airport due to service disruptions, and several railway lines were suspended. Additionally, power was cut to 26,000 households and gas supplies were interrupted for 13,000 customers.

Emergency services continue rescue and cleanup operations. Officials have issued new evacuation orders for areas at risk of landslides, particularly in Yotsukaido, as the terrain remains unstable. The death toll includes individuals trapped in vehicles and an estimated 30 people injured, two of whom remain in serious condition.
