Chiba Prefecture continues recovery after deadly heavy rains

One week after record-breaking heavy rains struck Chiba Prefecture, recovery efforts continue as the region grapples with significant human and infrastructural damage. The floods have resulted in 13 confirmed deaths and one person remains missing. Residential damage is extensive, with approximately 2,700 homes suffering from flooding or structural damage.

In Chiba City, authorities have completed the removal of all stalled vehicles from major arterial roads. While approximately 2,700 vehicles were initially immobilized by water across the prefecture, many were recovered by owners or road services. Local officials are now shifting focus to clearing vehicles from narrower residential streets.

Infrastructure repairs are also underway. In Chiba City's Midori Ward, water outages caused by collapsed roads and damaged pipes are expected to be resolved following the installation of temporary lines. Meanwhile, in Tochigi Prefecture, the Disaster Relief Act has been applied to Ashikaga City to cover the costs of emergency housing repairs and debris removal following heavy rainfall in July.
