Chicago Alderman Michael Rodriguez to not seek re-election
Chicago Alderman Michael Rodriguez has announced that he will not seek re-election to the City Council in 2027. Representing the 22nd District, which includes La Villita, Rodriguez cited a desire to spend more time with his family, including his daughter and ailing father, as the primary reason for his decision.
During his tenure, Rodriguez served as the chair of the Workforce Development Committee and was a key ally to Mayor Brandon Johnson. His legislative work included co-sponsoring the Fair Workweek Ordinance and the Paid Leave Ordinance, which provided protections and paid time off for workers. He also oversaw significant investments in the district, including $100 million for housing, school renovations, and community recreation centers.
