Chicago Bears cornerback Kyler Gordon placed on PUP list

Chicago Bears nickel cornerback Kyler Gordon has been placed on the reserve/physically unable to perform (PUP) list, ruling him out for at least the first four games of the season due to a lingering calf injury. Gordon missed all of training camp as he dealt with the injury, and his absence creates significant depth issues for the Bears' secondary.

General manager Ryan Poles expressed uncertainty regarding Gordon's long-term future with the team, stating, “I don’t know. I hope so,” when asked if the player would play for the organization this season. Poles noted that the team has not been able to progress as quickly as desired regarding Gordon's recovery and mentioned that the player is working with the team's training staff.

The injury leaves the Bears' defense in a precarious position. With Gordon sidelined, the team is looking to rookie Malik Muhammad to take on significant responsibilities in the slot. Other defensive back concerns include Jaylon Jones, who is on injured reserve with a hamstring injury, and Coby Bryant, who is expected to miss time following knee surgery.
