Chicago Bears face unsettled starting competitions

The Chicago Bears are approaching the 53-man roster cutdown with ongoing competitions for several starting positions. Head coach Ben Johnson noted that the left tackle and safety spots remain unsettled.

At left tackle, Braxton Jones has emerged as a front-runner and the most consistent performer during training camp, despite a recent minor knee injury and some recent struggles on the field. Other competitors in the rotation include Jedrick Wills Jr., Theo Benedet, and Kiran Amegadjie. The team is also monitoring the status of Ozzy Trapilo, who is currently on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list following a major knee injury.

On the defensive side, while Dillon Thieneman is expected to start at safety, the position next to him is still being contested following an injury to Coby Bryant that is expected to sideline him for most of the season.
