Chicago Bears hit by injuries to running back Kyle Monangai and safety Coby Bryant

Running back Kyle Monangai, a rookie who logged 783 yards and five touchdowns last season, missed several training‑camp practices and was later diagnosed with a soft‑tissue injury. Head coach Ben Johnson said the injury appears to be short‑term and the player is expected to return to practice soon.

Safety Coby Bryant suffered a hyper‑extended knee, a bone bruise and a small fracture during a drill, an injury that will keep him out for eight to ten weeks and cause him to miss the first three to five games of the season. Bryant, a three‑year, $40 million free‑agent signing, was expected to anchor the Bears' secondary. The team is evaluating options to replace him, including veteran free agent Cam Lewis.
