Chicago Bears implement new offensive system amid defensive injury concerns

Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson has implemented a new offensive strategy to address communication issues and penalties following a difficult start to the 2025 season. To simplify complex, lengthy play calls that were overwhelming players, the coaching staff transitioned to a system using single-word keywords. This method, inspired by collegiate tempo-based offenses, allows for easier digestion of plays while still permitting motions, shifts, and adjustments.

On the defensive side, the Bears are facing significant injury challenges within their secondary. Players such as Kyler Gordon and Coby Bryant have dealt with injuries, forcing the team to rely on camp bodies and backups like Cam Lewis. While Johnson noted that certain injury issues are among the things the team ‘can’t control,’ the team is preparing to face the Cincinnati Bengals' defense in upcoming preseason action.
