Caleb Williams' trademark bid denied as Bears pursue championship and assess roster

Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams posted a standout second season, completing 58.1% of 330 passes for 3,942 yards, 27 touchdowns and three rushing scores, helping Chicago win the NFC North and reach the divisional playoffs. Williams’ attempt to trademark his “Iceman” nickname was initially refused by the United States Patent and Trademark Office because of a likelihood of confusion with a 1988 boot trademark owned by LaCrosse Footwear. The USPTO noted the marks are identical in appearance, sound and meaning. The nickname was intended for a clothing line and related merchandise; Williams may appeal the decision while a separate logo application remains under review.

Edge rusher Austin Booker, a 2024 fifth‑round pick who recorded 4.5 sacks last season, was identified by Fox Sports as the team’s biggest X‑factor for 2026. Injuries to other pass‑rushers such as Dayo Odeyingbo and Shemar Turner keep the pressure on Booker to become a consistent starter.

Fantasy analysts offer mixed projections for Williams. ESPN’s Mike Clay predicts a regression to 3,821 passing yards and 25 touchdowns, while other analysts expect Williams to remain a top‑10 fantasy quarterback.
