Chicago Bears restructure left tackle competition
The Chicago Bears are restructuring their left tackle competition following underwhelming preseason performances by Jedrick Wills and Kiran Amegadjie. After both players struggled during the preseason opener, head coach Ben Johnson announced that Braxton Jones will return to the first-team reps at the position.
As a result of the shift, Amegadjie and Wills have been moved to compete for reps at right tackle. Theo Benedet has also re-entered the left tackle rotation, working with the first unit.
Veteran offensive lineman Joe Thuney, a five-time All-Pro, expressed a desire for stability to better build rapport and consistency with his teammates. Coach Johnson noted that while the position has been a ‘revolving door,’ the goal remains to find a group that can play cohesively as a single unit.
