Chicago Chinatown groups urge immigrant voter turnout

Community organizations and elected officials gathered in Chicago's Chinatown on Sunday to promote voter participation ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. With approximately one week remaining before Election Day, local leaders and volunteers conducted outreach to provide residents with essential voting information and improve accessibility.

The Coalition for a Better Chinese American Community hosted an event featuring neighborhood canvassing and escorts to a nearby early voting center. Grace Chan McKibben, the coalition's executive director, noted that some residents may feel hesitant to vote due to anxiety and hostility toward immigrants, emphasizing that voting is a fundamental right.

State Representative Theresa Mah highlighted that efforts to strengthen political representation in the area have been ongoing for over a decade, following a period when the population was split across multiple districts. 11th Ward Alderman Nicole Lee also attended the rally to stress the importance of community participation.
