Chicago Fire defeat Portland Timbers 2-1 to extend winning streak
The Chicago Fire secured a 2-1 victory over the Portland Timbers at Soldier Field, marking their fifth consecutive win across MLS and the Leagues Cup. The victory moves Chicago into third place in the Eastern Conference.
Early goals from Robin Lod in the 9th minute and Dje D’Avilla in the 14th minute established a dominant lead for the Fire. Portland’s Finn Surman scored a late consolation goal in the 85th minute. The match also served as the debut for Portland’s new head coach, Martí Cifuentes.
Robert Lewandowski, playing for Chicago, had a quiet performance. The 37-year-old striker missed a significant scoring opportunity in the 17th minute and was substituted in the 60th minute. He currently holds two goals for the season in MLS.
