Chicago hosts Mexican Independence Day celebrations

Mexican Independence Day El Grito Chicago Festival 26th Street Parade Little Village Chicago cultural events

Chicago is hosting several major cultural celebrations this weekend, headlined by Mexican Independence Day festivities. The El Grito Chicago Festival will take place in Grant Park on Saturday, Sept. 12, and Sunday, Sept. 13, featuring live music and food.

Additionally, the 55th Annual 26th Street Mexican Independence Day Parade is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 13. Starting at 12 p.m. at the Little Village Arch, the parade travels down 26th Street to Kostner Avenue. As one of the largest parades in the Midwest, it is expected to draw over 400,000 participants and spectators, showcasing mariachi bands, folkloric dance, and floats.

City officials, including Mayor Brandon Johnson and representatives from the Chicago Police Department and the Consulate General of Mexico, have coordinated to ensure public safety during these large-scale events.
