Chicago man charged after overnight burglary at Macy’s

Roy Pughsley, 53, has been charged with burglary and felony retail theft after allegedly spending a night inside a Macy’s department store in downtown Chicago. According to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred on June 28.

Security footage from the store reportedly shows Pughsley wandering the aisles, trying on various items of clothing, and accessing a store kitchen to prepare food from a refrigerator. He allegedly exited the premises around 3:25 a.m. with unpaid merchandise.

Authorities identified Pughsley after a Macy’s employee spotted an individual matching his description outside the store, noting he was wearing the same shoes and carrying the same backpack seen in the June surveillance footage. Pughsley has a significant criminal history in Chicago, with 25 recorded arrests since 2017, including recent charges for unlawful use of a weapon and trespassing.
