Chicago police arrest man after shots fired near federal building

A man was taken into custody following reports of gunfire outside the John C. Kluczynski Federal Building in Chicago’s Loop district on Tuesday morning. The incident, reported around 4:45 a.m., prompted a heavy response from the Chicago Police Department and Department of Homeland Security personnel.

Authorities stated that no injuries were reported, though the shooting caused minor damage to federal property and bullet holes were observed in an office building across the street. A firearm was recovered at the scene, and charges are pending against the male suspect.

The federal building houses several agencies, including the IRS, the Social Security Administration, and the Labor Department. While the investigation is ongoing, officials from the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois confirmed there is no active threat and the nearby Dirksen Federal Courthouse remains open.
