Chicago police identify suspect in 65-year-old cold case murder
Chicago investigators have identified a suspect in the 1960 murder of 8-year-old Gloria Kowalewicz using new DNA technology. Evidence from a consumer genetics genealogy website allowed the FBI to link the crime scene to Thomas Francis McInerney, who was 24 years old at the time of the incident.
McInerney was a police detective whose job would have been to protect the child. The victim's body was discovered in a ravine, miles from her home in West Englewood, following two gunshot wounds. The case was reopened earlier this year after the genealogical breakthrough provided a connection to the decades-old investigation.
