Chicago records 42 shooting victims during violent weekend

Chicago experienced one of its most violent periods of the year, with 42 people shot between Friday and Monday morning. The weekend resulted in three fatalities and 39 injuries, marking the city’s second-worst shooting weekend in 2026.

A significant portion of the violence occurred during a shootout at a picnic in Washington Park, where 15 people were shot, including one fatality. This incident is tied for the second-worst mass shooting in Chicago since at least 2013. Other incidents included a fatal shooting in the Bronzeville neighborhood near Michigan Avenue and various shootings across the West Chicago Avenue and West North Avenue areas.

Year-to-date, homicide data indicates that 281 people have been killed in Chicago.
