Chicago South Side communities seek federal aid after storms

Communities in the south area of Chicago are requesting federal economic assistance following devastating damage caused by recent storms and tornadoes. Local officials from several suburbs reported that local resources have been exhausted, leaving residents to face significant economic losses.

Property owners are facing costs ranging from $6,000 to $20,000 to remove fallen trees and debris. Congresswoman Robyn Kelly, supporting the request for federal aid, noted that many homes remain damaged and residents have been without electricity since storms in July and August. Authorities warned that remaining debris, including branches and poles, continues to pose a safety risk to the community.
