Chicago suspect charged with murder in Austin neighborhood double homicide
A 36-year-old suspect, Wendy Baptisme, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder following a fatal shooting in Chicago’s Austin neighborhood. The incident occurred late Thursday night in a basement on the 800 block of North Parkside Avenue.
Police identified the victims as 27-year-old Deangelo Johnson and 47-year-old Angela Johnson. Both victims were transported to Mount Sinai Hospital, where they were pronounced dead. Authorities noted that the suspect and both victims resided on the same block where the attack took place. Two firearms were recovered at the scene.
Baptisme was taken into custody by officers at the scene and is scheduled to appear at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse for a detention hearing. The shooting follows a pattern of violence in the area, including a previous shooting involving a 79-year-old man on the same block in March.
