Chicago White Sox claim catcher Jake Rogers off waivers
The Chicago White Sox have claimed veteran catcher Jake Rogers off waivers from the Boston Red Sox. To accommodate Rogers on the roster, the White Sox have designated left-handed pitcher Joe Rock for assignment.
Rogers, 31, joins Chicago to provide depth following injuries to catchers Kyle Teel and Joey Bart. During his brief tenure with Boston, Rogers appeared in three games, recording two doubles and two RBIs. He is noted for his defensive capabilities, including pitch framing and defensive runs saved.
Rogers previously spent much of his career with the Detroit Tigers before moving through the Baltimore Orioles and Boston Red Sox organizations. His arrival in Chicago coincides with a series against the Tigers in Detroit.
