Chicago White Sox eliminated from AL Central race after loss to Rockies
The Chicago White Sox have been eliminated from contention for the American League Central division title following a 9-6 loss to the Colorado Rockies. The Cleveland Guardians secured the division title after defeating the Kansas City Royals 11-5, leaving the White Sox with an insurmountable deficit.
Hunter Goodman led the Rockies' offense with two home runs, marking his 41st of the season. Goodman is the first Colorado player to hit at least 40 home runs in a single season since Nolan Arenado in 2019. Other home runs for Colorado were provided by Brenton Doyle and Ezequiel Tovar, while Luisangel Acuña hit a home run for Chicago.
Despite losing the division race, the White Sox have secured an American League Wild Card spot, marking their first postseason appearance since 2021. They will play as the away team in a best-of-three Wild Card Series starting Tuesday against the winner of the American League West, which will be determined by the final day of the season between the Texas Rangers and the Houston Astros.
