Chicago White Sox move Luis Castillo to bullpen

The Chicago White Sox have moved pitcher Luis Castillo to the bullpen following a period of significant struggle since his acquisition from the Seattle Mariners at the trade deadline. Manager Will Venable confirmed the decision after Castillo struggled to maintain his role in the starting rotation.

Since joining the White Sox, Castillo has posted a 7.76 ERA and a 1.79 WHIP over seven appearances. While he recorded a standout seven-inning scoreless performance against his former team, the Cincinnati Reds, his subsequent outings have seen him struggle to complete five innings. General manager Chris Getz noted that the quality of Castillo's pitches has “definitely gone in the wrong direction,” citing a noticeable dip in velocity on his four-seam fastball.

The trade, which saw Chicago acquire Castillo in exchange for prospect Boston Smith, minor leaguer Nolan Jones, and reliever Seranthony Domínguez, was intended to stabilize a rotation that was identified as a primary weakness. Rookie David Sandlin is expected to take over much of the rotation work in Castillo's absence.
