Chicago White Sox prospective owner unveils riverfront stadium plans

Justin Ishbia, the prospective owner of the Chicago White Sox, has unveiled plans for a new riverfront ballpark as part of a massive mixed-use development called ‘The Railyards’. The proposed 48-acre project would be located on Amtrak’s 14th Street Coach Yard in Chicago’s South Loop, stretching from Roosevelt Road to 18th Street.

The development is designed to be a vibrant entertainment and commercial district, featuring housing, retail, restaurants, and a new facility for Northwestern Medicine. Renderings depict a vintage-style stadium with a brick façade overlooking the Chicago River, complete with a riverwalk and a public plaza. The project aims to transform idle land into an economic driver for the city.

Implementing the plan would require relocating Amtrak’s current maintenance operations from the site. Illinois Governor JB Pritzker has expressed optimism regarding the proposal, noting its potential to benefit both the team and the city through improved access and economic investment.
