Chicago woman charged with murder following fatal stabbing

Kelly Day, 32, has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the October 7 killing of 50-year-old Larry Young on Chicago’s South Side. According to the Chicago Police Department and reports from the Chicago Tribune, the fatal confrontation occurred near a gas station and allegedly began after Young made remarks regarding Day’s gender identity.

Surveillance footage reportedly captured Day stabbing Young 13 times in the head, neck, and shoulders. An autopsy conducted by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the cause of death as multiple sharp-force injuries and noted that a fragment of the knife blade had snapped off and remained inside the victim’s skull.

During investigations, Day claimed she acted in self-defense, alleging that Young used a slur, threatened her and her wife, and made a motion suggesting he was armed. Prosecutors noted the incident followed a confrontation involving the use of a women’s restroom.
