Chick-fil-A CEO addresses LGBTQ+ equality questions

Chick-fil-A CEO Andrew Cathy recently addressed the company’s historical controversies regarding LGBTQ+ equality during an interview on NBC’s ‘Today Show’. When questioned by presenter Craig Melvin about past backlash and boycotts stemming from the company’s history, Cathy declined to provide a specific stance on LGBTQ+ equality.

Instead, Cathy emphasized the company’s commitment to hospitality and service. He stated that the brand is focused on serving everyone who enters their restaurants, noting, “We’re focused on serving everybody that comes in and eats with us.” He also described the company’s faith-based mission as its “anchor,” stating that Chick-fil-A aims to glorify God through faithful stewardship and positive influence.

The scrutiny follows long-standing criticism regarding the company’s past political and charitable associations. In 2012, then-CEO Dan Cathy expressed opposition to same-sex marriage, which led to significant public protests and boycotts. While Cathy’s responses confirmed that all customers are welcome, they did not explicitly address whether the company’s leadership now formally supports LGBTQ+ equality.
