Chicken hearts identified as high-protein nutrient source
Chicken hearts are highlighted as a nutrient-dense and cost-effective alternative to common protein sources like chicken breast and eggs. According to nutritionist Daniel Cady, chicken hearts are rich in protein, iron, vitamin B12, and coenzyme Q10.
The iron found in chicken hearts is noted for being highly absorbable by the body, aiding in oxygen transport. Additionally, the food can provide approximately eight times more vitamin B12 than eggs, which is essential for nervous system function and blood cell formation. The presence of coenzyme Q10 also supports mitochondrial energy production. While beneficial, experts advise that chicken hearts are organ meats and should not be used as an isolated solution for protein intake.
