Chicken Shawarma Wrap has been named Deliveroo’s first annual ‘Takeaway of the Summer 2026’. According to data from the delivery service, orders for the Middle Eastern dish increased by over 70% this summer compared to the previous year.

The rise in popularity is driven largely by independent restaurants and family-run grills rather than major chains. Deliveroo reported that more than half of the restaurants selling shawarma this summer did not offer the item a year ago.

Peak ordering times for the wrap occur at 7pm, with Friday identified as the busiest day for shawarma orders. Coventry was noted as the leading city for shawarma demand in the UK.
