Chiclana celebrates 150 years since receiving city title
On Saturday 8 August, the town of Chiclana in southern Spain will mark the 150th anniversary of the city title granted by King Alfonso XII. Mayor José María Román will preside over the ceremony on La Vega street, where a mosaic honoring Leopoldo de Alba y Salcedo – the journalist, politician and diplomat whose influence secured the honour – will be unveiled on the façade of the former Central Pharmacy.
The Municipal Band, directed by Maestro Enrique Montero, will perform the town anthem, and the mayor will close the event with an official statement. In the evening, a free Verbena de la Paloma concert featuring about a hundred artists will be held in Plaza Mayor, and a special exhibition of the María Emilia Lira doll collection will also be on display.
