Chiclana inaugurates monument to activist Diego Rodríguez Barbosa

The municipality of Chiclana has inaugurated the ‘Homenaje a la Concordia’ monument to honor Diego Rodríguez Barbosa (1885–1936), a labor activist, writer, and anarchist affiliated with the Confederación Nacional del Trabajo (CNT).

Rodríguez Barbosa was executed on August 28, 1936, at the site now known as the Los Gallos health center, which was then called Alcantarilla del Águila. The inauguration ceremony was led by Mayor José María Román and attended by municipal officials, family members, and José Luis Gutiérrez, author of the book ‘El anarquismo en Chiclana. Diego Rodríguez Barbosa, obrero y escritor’.

The sculpture was created by local artist Antonio Vela with an investment of 10,890.55 euros, funded through the municipality's status as a Tourist Municipality of Andalusia. Mayor Román described the act as a pursuit of justice and recognition for those who held free thoughts during a period of historical repression.
