Chiclana Mayor José María Román Launches Vestigium Heritage Panels

Mayor José María Román of Chiclana attended the unveiling of the Vestigium project, a series of informational panels about the historic coastline of La Barrosa. The presentation, held at the Torre del Puerco and Torre Bermeja, was organized by the Centro de Arqueología Subacuática of the Instituto Andaluz del Patrimonio Histórico, with support from European funds and the Junta de Andalucía.

Román highlighted the area's past, noting that the beach hosted battles such as Trafalgar and the Battle of La Barrosa and now serves as a major tourist destination. He praised the project for helping visitors appreciate the region’s cultural and natural heritage. Project coordinator Milagros Alzaga explained that the panels feature images of the first tracks, Pleistocene shell remains, and the watchtowers commissioned by Felipe II, as well as a reference to the 1752 wreck of the ship Soberbio.

The initiative aims to enhance public awareness of the coastal legacy and promote sustainable tourism along the Gaditano shoreline.
