Chiclayo, Peru, implements new pet ownership regulations

In Chiclayo, Peru, a municipal ordinance (No. 0002-2024-MPCH-A) has established new regulations regarding the ownership of dogs and cats to promote animal protection and responsible pet ownership.

Under the new rule, residents are generally permitted to keep up to two dogs or cats per household. Owners wishing to keep a third or more animals must apply for municipal authorization. This process involves an administrative request and potential inspections to ensure the property meets specific hygiene, space, and well-being standards. Failure to comply with these requirements can result in fines of up to R$ 1,628.
