Chiclayo residents demand garbage removal after delayed works

Residents of Cahuide street in Chiclayo, Peru, have protested the accumulation of solid waste caused by a two‑month delay in a sewer‑network renewal and pavement project. The stalled works have left municipal collection trucks unable to access the street, forcing families to store garbage in the public space and exposing them to contamination.

The neighbourhood demanded immediate action, warning they would organize a protest at the municipal office if the problem persists. Mayor Edwin Vásquez Sánchez apologized for the delay, announced that work on the street will begin within ten days, and said the project, funded with a budget of 6 million soles, is now expected to be completed in November.
