Chico 2.0 project reimagines Chico Buarque classics through urban music

The musical project ‘Chico 2.0’ has begun releasing reinterpretations of Chico Buarque’s classic songs on digital platforms. The initiative aims to bridge the gap between Buarque’s legendary repertoire and contemporary urban music genres, including rap, trap, funk, R&B, samba, and soul.

Produced by Felipe Poeta and Alê Siqueira, the project is a collaboration between Central Única das Favelas (Cufa), FRecords, Tha House Company, and Universal Music Brasil. The album will consist of 10 tracks released in two stages, with the second part expected in October. Featured artists include MC Cabelinho, Dexter, Tasha e Tracie, Livinho, Don L, and Vandal. Notably, the track ‘O Que Será (À Flor da Terra)’ features Milton Nascimento and Chico Buarque himself.

Artistic director Preto Zezé emphasized that the project is a national endeavor intended to represent various regions of Brazil rather than a localized Rio de Janeiro effort. The goal is to provide a new way of listening to a consecrated repertoire without treating the original works as museum pieces, allowing different Brazilian identities to connect with the music.
