Chico Buarque endorses political candidates in Brazil

Brazilian singer and songwriter Chico Buarque has announced his support for several political candidates. In one endorsement, he backed Cida Pedrosa, a lawyer, feminist activist, and award-winning writer, for the Legislative Assembly of Pernambuco. Pedrosa, who currently serves as a councilwoman in Recife, aims to expand her focus on culture, human rights, and social rights to the state level.

Additionally, Buarque expressed support for candidates from the Landless Workers' Movement (MST) for the 2026 elections. In a video, he emphasized the importance of voting for candidates who defend collective values, solidarity, humanism, justice, and sovereignty. He specifically named several candidates for federal and state legislative positions across various states, including Maranhão, Sergipe, Pará, Minas Gerais, Ceará, and Rio de Janeiro.
